A shortcut review was carried out to establish whether there was any evidence to show whether a u-slab, a hanging cast or collar and cuff was associated with less pain and better healing in uncomplicated humeral shaft fracture in the elderly. Forty-seven papers were found using the reported searches, of which none presented any evidence to answer the clinical question. It is concluded that there is no evidence to determine which of u-slab, hanging cast or collar and cuff are better. Local advice should be sought and followed.
