The Healthcare Commission has released results from its annual survey of NHS staff in England,1 a survey completed in the last quarter of 2007. There was a total of 155 922 replies from all 391 NHS trusts—a response rate of 54%. These figures are not weighted to take consideration of trust size but all other figures are weighted to reflect unbiased estimates of all NHS staff in England, rather than being biased towards the responses of staff in smaller organisations and those types of trusts and regions that had higher responses. There are many messages from the survey, which covers a range of subjects, including infection control, work satisfaction, line manager support, near miss and harmful error reporting and ambulance safety.
