Clinical introduction

A 64-year-old woman presented to the Emergency Department with the sensation of something ‘stuck in her throat’. She states she was eating fish and could now feel something to the right side of the throat. There was no evidence of airway compromise, shortness of breath, cough, retrosternal chest pain and swallowing was not affected. A soft tissue neck X-ray is organised for her (figure 1).
