Subclavian vessel injury from chest-drain malposition in the treatment of a pneumothorax in the presence of a lateral third open clavicular fracture
2022, Radiology Case ReportsCitation Excerpt :Although sometimes regarded as a straightforward procedure that is given to less experienced registrars to perform, there is potential to inflict serious injuries to the patient. A large-scale study of 1249 patients reported a 1% complication rate; however, some have shown figures as high as 36%, with a higher proportion occurring in those with blunt trauma [3–5]. Most large-scale studies of complications resulting from tube thoracostomy including complications such as displacement into the chest wall, pulmonary edema, and injuries to the lung or diaphragm.
Tube Thoracostomy
2015, Atlas of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinics of North AmericaCitation Excerpt :Tube thoracostomy insertion is not a benign procedure and has complication rates as high as 10%.6 Most complications are minor; however, some complications can result in significant morbidity and mortality.7–12 Complications of tube thoracostomy are outlined as follows:
