2017, American Journal of Emergency MedicineCitation Excerpt :Therefore, some authors consider TT as the treatment of choice for initial chest decompression [3]. Data on the prolongation of the prehospital resuscitation time due to TT is incongruent [20,21], but there is no evidence for an increased risk of infection [5,21,22]. To keep the time to hospital admission as low as possible, a simple thoracostomy without chest tube insertion was proved safe and effective and may be considered as an alternative to TT in mechanically ventilated patients [23], although this treatment was not observed in any of our patients.
