Assessing the link between omega-3 fatty acids, cardiac arrest, and sudden unexpected death in epilepsy
2009, Epilepsy and BehaviorCitation Excerpt :The reported mortality appears to be much higher in mice [42], than in rats [43,44]. Second, cardiorespiratory abnormalities have been reported in pigs and cats following PTZ administration [45,46], although it has not been established that these cardiac abnormalities are the actual cause of the deaths that occur. Finally, as will be discussed in the following section, drugs or genetic factors that prevent seizure activity or delay latency to seizure onset, also prevent the deaths that occur in the PTZ seizure test, although it is not known whether this is also due to an antiarrhythmic component of the factor or to the compound protecting against seizures.
