Abstract

Interest in the development of the specialty of emergency medicine and of emergency health care systems has greatly increased worldwide in the last few years. The guidelines in this article were developed in an effort to assist others in design and evaluation of all types of emergency medicine projects. INTRODUCTION

International interest in the development of the specialty of emergency medicine and of emergency health care systems has greatly increased worldwide in the last few years. Each issue of Annals now contains one or more articles reporting on the status of emergency medicine in other countries. A number of different and unrelated emergency medicine development projects have been started in many countries.

The authors encourage the use of the guidelines in this document for evaluation of international emergency medicine projects, and are hopeful these will be of assistance in planning and improving such projects. Use of these guidelines can provide a standardized scheme for evaluation and study of the many different emergency medicine projects underway or planned for the future.
