Clinical introduction
An 11-month-old previously healthy child presented to the ED with fever followed by haemorrhagic rashes which started over face and subsequently spread to whole body over a period of 2 days (figure 1). Two of her siblings recovered from varicella in the last 15 days uneventfully. The child was drowsy with temperature 102°F, blood pressure 88/50 mm Hg, heart rate 116/min, respiratory rate 24/min and oxygen saturation 100% on room air. Other systemic examination was normal.
