    X RAYS FOR SHOULDER DISLOCATION?

    A prospective validation study of a selective radiography algorithm for anterior shoulder dislocations (

    ) set out to challenge traditional practice of obtaining x rays before and after reduction of patients with shoulder dislocation. The authors argue that the results of this relatively small study indicate that it may be reasonable not to obtain many post-reduction x rays and not to x ray all patients with recurrent dislocations. They do, however, suggest that a larger study is required and warn that their policy may not satisfy medico-legal opinion!
