Background: Reinfarction following thrombolytic treatment for acute myocardial infarction is associated with increased mortality. Reinfarction is more common after early treatment. Against a background of increasing prehospital thrombolytic treatment, we used data from MINAP to examine the frequency and determinants of reinfarction following prehospital treatment.
Methods: An observational study of 35 356 cases of STEMI given thrombolysis is in 2005–6.
Results: For 22 391 patients (66.3%) the presence or absence of reinfarction during the hospital admission was recorded; 1460 (6.5%) suffered reinfarction. Those having reinfarction had earlier treatment whether prehospital or inhospital (interval from onset to treatment was (median) 85 against 97 min (p = 0.017) …
