Confusion still exists between the diagnosis of this serious condition and that of preseptal cellulitis. Delay in treatment may cause blindness and progression to life-threatening sequelae such as brain abscess, meningitis or cavernous sinus thrombosis. We report a case in which, despite late referral, emergency surgical intervention was sight saving.
