He had persistent pain despite treatment and was subsequently diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukaemia. It is well recognised that acute leukaemia commonly presents as non-traumatic limb pain. This case highlights the need to consider acute leukaemia in the differential diagnosis of any persisting bone or joint pain, even in the context of recent injury.
