TY - JOUR T1 - Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust: another progress report JF - Emergency Medicine Journal JO - Emerg Med J SP - 252 LP - 252 DO - 10.1136/emj.2010.091991 VL - 27 IS - 4 AU - Geoff Hughes Y1 - 2010/04/01 UR - http://emj.bmj.com/content/27/4/252.abstract N2 - The beleaguered, heavily scrutinised and much maligned Mid Staffordshire NHS Trust has had a 6-month review (as promised by the Care Quality Commission (CQC)), the findings of which were published in December 2009; it is the second in a series of three, the final one scheduled for this spring.Before this particular review, the CQC expected the trust to have a clear strategic vision for transformation, have made and sustained progress against key priorities, show that patients are receiving better care, be monitoring mortalities, have lower standardised mortalities for emergency admissions, have essential equipment in stock and have effective governance to monitor care and put remedial action in place when poor care is found.Some key findings from the review are:Although patients are generally receiving better care, and mortalities are falling, the trust must ensure that leadership, governance and a listening and learning culture can lead to high-quality care in all services.There has been some progress in meeting key priorities defined by the trust after the crisis originally broke (known as the transformation programme).The trust must improve its complaints mechanism and routinely seek patient feedback.
