2017, Annals of Emergency MedicineCitation Excerpt :The nurse-led competency model exclusively included operational competencies, potentially because of the nurses’ involvement in and focus on the day-to-day operations of the ED, which have far-reaching implications for health care provision. “Operations management” has direct implications for the management of ED crowding, which is a serious and increasing problem in the current health care system,9 whereas “problem-solving and decisionmaking skills” is associated with greater patient safety and can provide insight on clinical decision errors.2 The communalities between the 2 models revealed that even when competencies overlap, they do not necessarily manifest similarly.
