Airway compromise after dental extraction
2011, Journal of Emergency MedicineCitation Excerpt :The first reported case in the literature resulted from someone playing a bugle (4). Sneezing, coughing, vomiting, and nose blowing increase intraoral pressure and may result in subcutaneous emphysema by forcing air into an open socket after a dental procedure (5). There have been case reports of peak flow meter use after oral surgery and nasal CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) use after facial trauma leading to subcutaneous emphysema (6,7).
