2019, Handbook of Clinical NeurologyCitation Excerpt :The anticholinergic properties are the most salient features to be considered in the treatment of elderly patients as they can cause sedation, dry mouth, constipation, tachycardia, orthostatic hypotension, and increased risk of falls (Robbins and Lipton, 2010). ECG changes such as PR prolongation and widening of the QRS complex may also be seen (Harrigan and Brady, 1999). These medications should be used very cautiously in men with prostatic hypertrophy due to increased risk of urinary retention (Robbins and Lipton, 2010).
