A short-cut review was carried out to establish whether there is evidence to show that 1:1:1 component therapy reduces mortality in patients who require massive transfusion after trauma. 567 papers were found using the reported searches, of which 11 presented the best evidence to answer the clinical question. The author, date and country of publication, patient group studied, study type, relevant outcomes, results and study weaknesses of these best papers are shown in table 1. It is concluded that early use of 1:1:1 component therapy is supported by the best available literature.
